The lake was glass again this morning and the seniors lapped it up
Two weekends of rowing into 2013 and another couple of positive developments. First off we have been able to join in with the time trials being done by national team members and triallists. This has given the squad a direct indication of where they are at and provides additional motivation in the depths of Winter. Secondly the club is now out with all squads at the same time with three coaches on the water. It is still a very small club but this little step is a solid sign of progress and shows me that things are developing, which is good as I am supposed to be the rowing 'development officer' although I prefer Head Coach. Not only is this step good progress but it also means we have some versatility to move people around the squads as and when they merit it, this provides me with options I didn't have last season, not least because I didn't have the athletes!
Last night was the rowing club's annual dinner, and reflecting the current size of the club this was a relatively small scale event. None the less it was excellent to see the members enjoying themselves, and from a coaching point of view it was also excellent to see such a good attendance this morning- One young lady still somewhat over-dressed for training... One or two faces didn't show and there were some very weary looking seniors after 32k but this is the reality (although the no-shows will be enjoying this week's training rather more than usual) of life at a university boat club.
