Turn up the volume

The new year has seen the addition of a Wednesday morning session of volume with the seniors getting 18k on the machines under their belts before lectures. It's not the most exciting session to undertake or coach but then very few people get excited by the big holes full of concrete and steel that sit under big buildings. As the volume builds then it becomes even more important to manage intensity, in future weeks lactates will be tested.
With the additional session it is also important to take on board the impact on the individual's management of time, including the impact on sleep and hydration. I suspect that there will be an initial shock that will be dealt with by those that plan their week- and at this stage with the quantity of sessions being undertaken failing to plan is planning to fail as the saying goes.
A second little progression to the programme is that this evening's circuit is now a full body endurance circuit rather than the flat out repetition thrash that was thrown at the athletes in the first three months. The heart rates won't be up as high but the bodies will definitely be tested in new and very important ways. Glutes, abs and shoulders are going to be asked to endure just as they are in the boat. Right, now I've written about it I better go and design it..
