Heading into the final week of 'scheduled' training of 2013 and UCCRC are training hard. The machines are getting a pounding due to the blustery conditions that have been thrown at this part of the World in the last week but that has not prevented a great momentum picking up.
As we exit 2013 we can afford a very brief look back, UCCRC will leave 2013 behind having picked up two Intermediate Championships, won several events across the categories and in both male and female events at the Grand League regattas, and competed well in the UK for the first time in many years.
What is now important is that we look forward, plan and execute the plan.
The men's squad met yesterday morning to begin identifying targets and a plan for the Spring and Summer of 2014, there are some good challenges being set up and it will be interesting and exciting to see how the group goes about each goal. As the coach I am motivated by motivated athletes and I look forward to seeing how the group takes on the first block of training in 2014 which will have a very competitive element to it with a clear first goal in the early Spring.
There are many challenges still to be overcome in the 31 weeks left of the Irish domestic season, but with each challenge met comes a stronger athlete and a stronger squad.
