Racing has begun...and now it's stopped...

500 gone, good lead from Padraic and John in their heat

Men's and Women's Division one small boats raced this evening. Heats in Grand League time trial format to be followed by finals determined by the times... that is the idea anyway. Men's pairs managed to get sorted and then things seem to grind to a halt. With the athletes racing all weekend I took the decision to get them home rather than sit about waiting for a decision. From a UCC point of view all the racing that was done was either successful or very useful or even both! Padraic and John won Intermediate pairs coming 3rd in the A final. Mark had clear water in his heat by 500m gone but floundered upon hitting rougher water at the 1000m mark  and came in 3rd. A useful learning experience.
The women raced intermediate singles with Niamh fighting for a 2nd place in her first ever 2000m singles race. A good start to the weekend from UCC, not such a great start from the regatta organisers...
