A little frustrated not to be racing at St Michael's Head today but the stream is deemed too fast. The squad took advantage of a calm day in the recent barrage of wind that we have been receiving to get some timed pieces done on the course. For a change the third piece was the first free rate of the season, good to see how people dealt with the movement and the use of the legs over bodies and arms. It wasn't all positive but it was definitely a useful experience for all.
It's also good to be in February, four months down, still over five months from the big races of the season but I did for the first time in a while notice blue sky, as opposed to black on the way to the lake this morning.
Just a note on those membership numbers- I think there were 97 of us at the beginning of the season, now we are holding at about 40, not bad. The main limitations are availability of coaches and equipment- the latter can be fixed and will be due to the generosity of the College and the good book keeping of the club. Finding good coaches is harder, we are very fortunate to have John and Joe, both of whom have represented Ireland and both of whom are interested in developing a squad rather than just smashing a crew up and down the lake.
