Step by little step

The temperature has dropped, the wind is in the East and the layers are beginning to rise. A little slow onto the water this morning but still managed to get 18k in- or was it 18.4k  Pete? Including the now standard timed 3x2k. Great to see another female sculler getting involved. The cold cross-head kept the percentages down but by the third piece the pairs had finally realised that even at rate 20 you can race. Long hard strokes boys...
During the second session two boats full of new lady recruits spilled onto the lake, at first rather haphazard. Their coach, Joe Kearney motoring between them in the club's second launch. Gradually two boats that were far apart and pointing in different directions became two boats closer together, almost parallel. What was initially rowing in four became rowing in six, a few strokes 'whole crew' may even have been taken.
In the afternoon it was the turn of the boys. Two VIIIs pushed off and the process began again. There are some strong boys in this group and they want to work hard which is great, channeling that work rate into effective well taken strokes is the job of crew and coach. Progress was definitely made and I look forward to returning to the lake tomorrow.
