In order to progress on the water we have moved to sessions on Saturday and Sunday for the beginners. This means fewer places available and as we are oversubscribed people will miss out. To some extent I am not happy about this, selections are made on no where near enough data. However I know how tough this sport is and if we have made the wrong decision I am sure those that deserve a seat at the weekend will demonstrate their worth during the land training in the week. It also puts pressure on those selected to make the most of the opportunity. What could be seen as a negative moment is actually a win win situation.
We now have six weekends until the end of term and the first race for the beginners. Twelve water sessions to bring the group to a level where they can cover 500m with as little damage done to themselves or the equipment as possible!
I am looking forward to the challenge, from what I have seen of the beginners, so are they. The difference is that they don't yet know what the challenges are. The first one will be turning up on time with an open mindset. That is in fact three challenges rolled into one, oh and the weather is bound to play it's part...
