Back on the water, briefly...

Saturday morning, still and flat. Beautiful rowing conditions. One problem, fog. Fog so thick that it didn't clear until 10:30am. Frustrating but once it was gone the squad got a good long session done. First time in two coxless fours for the men, side by side. This is something that I have viewed as a training objective for the squad since arriving and while it might not seem like a big deal it is an important step to be able to run two crew boats of similar ability side by side. It should make the rest of Winter and Spring a little more 'interesting'. The occasional seat swap should make all on board aware that every session is an opportunity to add to your credit within the squad.
Sunday saw the weather return to it's Winter 13/14 default setting of wind and rain. The lake looking temptingly flat, a quick run out in the launch demonstrated that it was far from flat with rolling water on the course and white horses on the normally flat section above the bridge. This provided the squads with an opportunity to get together and go through a land based power session. It was excellent to see the seniors and novices, men and women working hard together. If the weather allows us we should now be on a relatively regular run of events to test all the squads with St Michael's Head on February 1st being the first outing of 2014 then Erne Head on the 1st of March being the second.
