As the temperature dips, the rain falls and the mileage creeps up it is easier and easier to get sick.
Keep the layers of technical wear on, particularly around the lower trunk- plenty of kit rides up the back as you repeatedly rock over- ensure this area remains covered.
Cotton, once damp will not suffice- you must have wicking layers
As you warm-up some layers may come off but rowing in a vest and shorts in the rain and an air temperature of 5 degrees is daft.
Staying hydrated is as important in Winter as it is in the Summer. Especially as there are so many long mileage sessions. Ensure you have enough fluid in the boat with you.
With sessions topping 20k, ensure you also have energy in the boat with you.
Wash your hands straight after the session, do not sit about eating in damp dirty rowing clothing. If you need motivation for washing your hands here is a re-post of a sample taken from an oar handle:

The gym is warm- outside the gym isn't- don't walk home in shorts and a T-shirt.
One final thing. With it getting dark very early and visibility being at times extremely poor. If you are cycling you must have lights and wear a helmet:
cycle helmet-no helmet stats
Obviously, cycling with earphones in is just plain stupid and no one in the squad would do that..
