Adding to the armoury

On Tuesday morning a limited number of Seniors added some pilates to their training. A class run by Sinead Murphy, an excellent physiotherapist in Cork City had the group finding muscles, using them and stretching them. An eye opener for most and as such a vital addition to the training programme of the squad.
The session's first objective is to expose some key holes in the make up of most of the athletes involved and then set about building more aware, robust and ultimately fast athletes using their bodies well. This should mean fewer hours out of the boat or away from the squad training sessions and more km's moving the boat with the right body parts.
The addition of this expertise supports the rest of the squad's facilities which now looks like this:
  • Squad gym with a strength and conditioning coach on site
  • National Rowing Centre at Inniscarra with it's 2k course and 15k of water
  • Studio on campus for erging
  • Full time coach

It is starting to look as it should, the components falling into place to provide the platform for excellence that must now come from quality hard training.
