First off, the seniors at Skibbereen Head. 3.2k of Inniscarra. I think it's safe to say that three weeks of training is not ideal preparation for 12mins or so of sculling or pairing at race pace. A race at this point in the season does help break up the training a little and gives the athletes a chance to compare and contrast. For the record the Inter' pair of Ian and Seán scored a win with UCCRC also in second place, well done lads.
Moving forward to the afternoon and due to the race on at the NRC the beginners had an afternoon of erging. The session started with a brief technical recap of the work done in the last couple of weeks. Excellent to see 40 beginners connecting and pushing. We then moved to a 250m challenge which gave all present the opportunity to see if they could do their newly found rowing skills at high rate...
The last part of the afternoon was a 6 team 5000m relay, no team member allowed more than 1k on the machine. Ten minutes were provided for teams to sort a strategy and practice changeovers. Then the teams were released.
